“Holiday” in La Roque

We have had a wonderful summer holiday, especially because of the fact that we had been invited to play at the piano festival of La Roque d’Anthéron, a piano festival in the south of France. It is a festival featuring great pianists, such as Maria João Pires, Martha Argerich, Boris Berezovsky, Nikolaï Lugansky Grigory Sokolov, Arcadi Volodos, etc., etc., so it was a huge honour for us to join them! We had been invited to play Mozart’s concerto for two pianos and the concerto KV 365, with which we were accompanied by the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, under the direction of director and violinist Augustin Dumay.

Normal high-school students with a special talent

Gemeente HilversumWednesday 7 July 2010

“New people teach you new things”
“We had a piano at home that actually was not used very often. So, that’s why I started playing it.” And this is how it all began for Lucas Jussen (aged 17). His younger brother Arthur (aged 13), too, appeared to be very talented. Since then they are conquering the world together. With an international record contract, their first CD immediately going for gold, and a USA tour with Jaap van Zweden, the career of the Jussen brothers got off to a flying start.

This year, they landed a contract with classical music label Deutsche Grammophon for their first CD, Beethoven Piano Sonatas. Arthur is the youngest musician ever to be signed to the label. ‘It’s a huge honour to be ranked among so many great musicians,’ says Lucas, speaking at The Basement in Universal’s offices in Hilversum.

The success of the Jussen brothers

HP/De Tijd – 20 mei 2010
By Ruud Meijer

The piano-playing brothers Arthur (13) and Lucas Jussen (17) are the only Dutch musicians ever contracted by Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft. Moreover, Arthur is the youngest performer who was allowed to record for this prestigious quality label. It appeared to be a golden opportunity for both parties: on the day Beethoven Piano Sonatas was released, the album had already achieved the golden status. Despite their exceptional pianistic gift, for Arthur and Lucas there is more in life than playing the piano – HP/De Tijd went to see what.
