Talent comes in twos in the case of brothers Arthur and Lucas Jussen, aged 13 and 17. This year, they landed a contract with classical music label Deutsche Grammophon for their first CD, Beethoven Piano Sonatas. Arthur is the youngest musician ever to be signed to the label. ‘It’s a huge honour to be ranked among so many great musicians,’ says Lucas, speaking at The Basement in Universal’s offices in Hilversum.
‘My dream is to travel the world giving concerts, but there’s lots of competition.’ As Arthur explains, ‘We practise for three hours a day, which is hard if we have lots of homework, but mostly playing is fun. We have a really broad music taste. We both have an iPod with not only classical music. It’s mostly pop – Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gay – but we also like hip hop.’
