CANTUS

Friday 7 March 2025

On the new EP CANTUS by brothers and pianists Lucas and Arthur Jussen, they explore in six tracks piano repertoire that was originally based on an aria or chorale melody.

CANTUS

CANTUS includes a special arrangement for two pianos of the Aria ‘Aus Liebe will mein Heiland sterben’ from Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. Lucas and Arthur also play three chorale arrangements by Johannes Brahms. He wrote these for organ, but his good friend Eusebius Mandyczewski arranged them for piano quatre-mains. The German composer Reinhard Febel made a re-work of Bach’s ‘Erbarm dich mein, o Herre Gott’ BWV721, also for piano quatre-mains. Lucas and Arthur Jussen conclude CANTUS with the version for two pianos of Arvo Pärt’s ‘Pari Intervallo’.
CANTUS will also be released on vinyl together with RÊVE on 2 May 2025.
